I promised I would aim to write each of my articles from a place I had never been before or a bed I had never been in (… now, there is a challenge! …).
Today, I am writing from Milan, which I am visiting for the first time with some friends. In my view, the weather is relatively mild, although my friends feel like they are crossing the Sahara.
I thought I would give them the priority to choose the topic of this article. One of my dear friends suggested I wrote about “How to wear trainers on a weekend break and look stylish!” I think I can guess why my friend asked me to write about this topic. Whilst the two of us were comfortably wearing trainers, there was one other friend who, after a few hours, was clearly in excruciating pain in those rather cute ballerinas…
Let me tell you about 5 ways to wear trainers on a weekend break and look stylish!
1. Choose your trainers carefully
I personally love trainers, but sometimes there is the danger that wearing certain types of trainers with certain clothes, etc can give a masculine look. Therefore, it is important you choose your trainers carefully.
Another main reason to choose your trainers carefully is that you want to make sure that you wear comfortable shoes during a weekend break, when you are likely to be doing quite a significant amount of walking. Naturally, if you are like my friends and I, we tend to take a 60-minute long break for a coffee or a Martini ( @Martini_drinks ) every 60 minutes, but I appreciate this may not be the norm!
When you are choosing your trainers for a weekend break you should take into account some very basic tips:
a) For your wellbeing, your trainers should support your full body weight and, therefore, provide you stability, which you will feel by the flexibility the trainers give to your motion. Cushioned shoes are most likely to provide you this type of support.
b) The lighter weight the trainer, the better, as this will require less effort from you in your movement. Nike are doing some really interesting lines and you even have the option to design your own trainers at nike.com ( @Nike ).
c) The design and colour of the trainers is important. Think about what clothes, colours and accessories you will be wearing during the weekend. If you fear looking like you are just on your way to the gym, leather trainers tend to give a less sporty look.
2. Wear your trainers with a skirt or dress for a continued feminine look
Fear not. You can look and feel sexy, stylish and feminine wearing trainers.
For a sporty, trendy look you can add a pair of Stan Smith ( @adidasalerts ) to a skater skirt, short jumpsuits or a midi or maxi dress. You can also add a very feminine messenger bag to avoid adding weight to your long-distance walk. Three different styles and looks in the first photo below to give you an idea.
3. You can keep your classy minimalist style wearing trainers
A pair of cropped pressed trousers and a silky shirt/top will look classy and stylish. You can even add this seasons’ Romantic styles and designs to a pair of trainers.
4. Go Metallic
Metallic trainers are also another way of ensuring a sleek style during your weekend break. You can wear silver, now in trend, or gold shoes, depending on your colour palette, during day-time. However, they are also very appropriate for a feminine evening look. An evening look below in gold.
5. A pair of Converse is a wardrobe basic
Irrespective as to whether you prefer high or low tops, Converse ( @Converse ) are a timeless choice of trainers. Be conscious that they may not be the type of trainers you want to wear the whole weekend if you are going to do a lot of walking, but they tend to be sufficiently comfortable if you have some breaks during your sightseeing experience. They also suit almost every type of outfit.
